Yeah!, I just finished my very first Wholesale order from this cool looking shop in Washington DC. Owners Danni and Leann found my "Sunny Side Up" barrette on my Etsy shop and inquired about doing a wholesale order on an assorted variety of barrettes. I had done some consignment before, but hadn't delved into the wholesale side as of yet, so I didn't really have much experience in how much to discount and what to charge and not charge. I ended up getting some advice from some sellers who had previous experience and the majority told me approximately the same thing on pricing, etc. What I did was figure out what to discount and the terms, gave a minimum amount of barrettes worth the effort and maximum where I wouldn't sweat beads for nothing. Then, I quickly came up with a rate and info sheet, along with a Flick'r set of barrette pics, and emailed this to them. At first, I was unsure that spending time on design and actual work would be worth the loss of revenue, but then thought about how even though I am not making as much as I would if I sold it at my normal retail pricing, and the time it would take to sell a larger amount at that, that I am putting my name out there and using this opportunity as a marketing vehicle (if it works in my favor).
It also turns out that this shop had some previous publicity in LUCKY magazine!, which is an honor when in the fashion industry, so I was excited to get the order and to be able to fulfill it. Now I just hope they like the barrettes! ;o)
