How to make a hamburger..guilt free.

Friday, April 18, 2008

Not a real hamburger, but we can pretend. Actually, I thought I'd take the small window of time to show how to make a hamburger barrette.

You will need the following:
1) Felt - Off white or brown
(bun), red (tomato), green (lettuce), yellow (cheese), white (seeds), and dark brown (patty).
2) Tacky glue or Elmer's glue.

3) Snap
on hair clip (or hair pin)

Now do the following:

1) Cut your pieces as you like and don't forget the sesame seeds for the bun.

2) Start with the base, using the bottom bun layer and do a trial run and top layer above layer to form your make believe hamburger. This is just so you can see where you are going with this and how it will look.
3) Start by making a small incision in the middle right or left part of the bottom bun. This will be for your hair clip to slip thru.
4) Glue the patty onto the bottom bun, making sure to cover up the barrette portion.
5) Proceed by glueing each layer onto layer, not forgetting to glue your little sesame seeds for the top bun.
6) To finish, turn the barrette over and put one last layer of the same type of felt you used for your bun, and affix it with glue to the entire back of the barrette. This will hide your layers and neaten it up.

Et voila! You now have a hamburger you can proudly wear in your hair...minus the fat of course! ;o) Enjoy!

I've been thinking about making doggy felt pins, as a cute whimsical material to use for my designs.... but, how well do the felt pieces hold up, and another concern, does it 'collect' hair?

I've been thinking about just buying felt and going for it, but I'm behind on my 'to do' list now, and don't need an excuse to procrastinate anymore than I do already ;0P
