I was surfing the Etsy site, not for shopping this time, but I was doing some research on what sells and what doesn't. It appears to be an odd and unexpected combination of things, and with a wide range of prices, which makes pinpointing the secret a little bit harder.
So, what I did was get the general idea that most successful products seem to be 1) "cute" or "adorable" 2) colorful 3) unique 4) purposeful. I happen to be looking down at my ATM card holder that I made a while back and thought, "I love this thing", and others could too. I also had one for my passport and that was great too. Plus, I'm always getting compliments on them.
It was fun to make them, as I put out all of my felts on the table and started with the pocket itself, played around with the theme and colors, and matched the embroidery thread for the border. I didn't want them to be obvious so I purposely chose colors that unusual but complimentary to each other.
I ended up making 9 of the ATM ones (the white one being my favorite) and 7 of the Passport ones (the green balloons my favorite), and I will be posting them this week for my Grand re-opening of my Etsy shop.
Check them out when you get a chance. I'd love to hear what you think!
